The Charleston International Airport design draws inspiration from Charleston's rich history and culture. The local legend is that blue ceilings ward off evil spirits. The central hall symbolizes the single Charleston house and it's typically ornate garden. As you move into the concourses the interiors evoke imagery of the low country with it's long piers that extend over the marshy waters. The airport renovation consolidated the two security check points into one and significantly increased the percentage of air-side retail. 6 additional gates were added with a Terminal B extension.
